Be Part of The Solution:
Spay/Neuter!

Welcome to

Serving the animals and people of Marshall County, Indiana, USA

There aren't enough homes for them all -- Please Spay or Neuter Your Pet!

The Marshall County Humane Society is dedicated to animal welfare.  Our small shelter takes in stray dogs and cats and companion animals that for many reasons are no longer wanted by their owners.  We take care of animal cruelty cases in our county, and have a spay/neuter program to help control the overpopulation of pets.  We are proud to say that in 2000 we placed more than 300 pets in adoptive homes in Marshall County, Indiana.

Why is spaying and neutering so important?  Please click here.

PET TAGS

Marshall County Humane Society has purchased a pet tag engraver.  All adopted pets and all pets that are returned to their owners will get an ID tag before they leave the shelter.

Our tags are also available to the public for $5 each.

Members of the Humane Society can purchase a pet ID tag at a special price.

Senior Discount -
Lowering our fees for Senior Pets

We are lowering our adoption fee for senior cats and dogs.  Our regular fee is $55 for a dog, and $40 for a cat.  If you adopt a pet over 5 years old, we will lower the fee by $10.  If that senior pet is already neutered, another $5 will be deducted, for a total possible savings of $15.  In addition, for senior citizens who adopt one of these senior pets, we will allow another $5 off the fee.  Senior pets, who through no fault of their own find themselves homeless, are in many cases already housebroken, and are usually quite well-mannered.  They are certainly very deserving of a loving home, and we want to give them every opportunity to find one.

Teach Kids to Care
Adopt-A-Classroom

Helping stray, abused, and abandoned animals in our community is our number-one goal. But rescuing, sheltering and adopting animals isn’t enough. We also need to teach our youngest citizens the basics of responsible pet care and the value of treating people and animals with kindness and respect. That’s why your support for our Adopt-A-Classroom is so vital.
For each $30 tax-deductible contribution you make to our Adopt-A-Classroom program, you’ll provide an entire Marshall County elementary school classroom with Kind News, an award-winning classroom newspaper that teaches children to be kind to people, animals, and the earth.
Last year we were able to supply Kind News to every first grader in Marshall County - 36 classroom  subscriptions in all. If you would like to help the Adopt-a-Classroom program, please call the shelter at 574-936-8300 and help keep this program going for the 2004-2005 school year.

To read more about the Kind News newsletter, and the national Adopt-A-Classroom program, go to http://www.kindnews.org.
